As the days grow longer and flowers start to bloom, spring offers the perfect opportunity to get creative with your kids. Crafting is a great way to encourage imagination, strengthen fine motor skills, and make lasting memories—all while keeping little hands busy during those in-between outdoor play moments. Whether you’re looking for a rainy-day activity or just something new to try, these springtime crafts are easy, budget-friendly, and full of color.
1. Paper Plate Rainbow
Supplies:
- Paper plates
- Cotton balls
- Tissue paper or colored construction paper (in rainbow colors)
- Glue
- Scissors
How-To:
Cut a paper plate in half to form a semi-circle. Help your child glue strips of colorful paper (or rolled bits of tissue) in rainbow order along the curved edge. Finish by gluing cotton balls to each end to create fluffy clouds. Hang it in the window for a cheerful pop of color!
2. Handprint Flower Garden
Supplies:
- Construction paper
- Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Green pipe cleaners or crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
How-To:
Let your child dip their hands in brightly colored paint and press them onto paper to make handprint “flowers.” Once dry, add stems using green pipe cleaners or draw them on. Cut out and glue the handprint flowers onto a bigger piece of paper to make a full blooming garden scene.
3. Egg Carton Caterpillars
Supplies:
- Empty egg carton
- Paint or markers
- Googly eyes
- Pipe cleaners
- Glue
How-To:
Cut the egg carton into a row of 4–6 cups. Let your child paint each “segment” of the caterpillar. Once dry, add googly eyes to one end and poke pipe cleaners in for antennae. You can even name them and create a whole caterpillar family!
