Here’s One Messy Activity That Won’t Ruin Your Living Room
Let’s face it—kids are obsessed with slime. There’s something about the squishy, stretchy, gooey texture that makes it irresistible to little hands. But if you’re like most parents, you’re probably not a fan of the aftermath—especially when it ends up stuck in carpet fibers, smushed into couch cushions, or dried onto clothing.
But guess what? It’s summer! That means we can finally say yes to the mess… outside.
Whether it’s for a backyard playdate, a picnic in the park, or just a fun afternoon on the patio, slime is a great hands-on activity that encourages creativity and sensory play. And if you want a version of slime that’s a little less sticky and a lot more satisfying to squish, we recommend trying Butter Slime!
🧈 How to Make Butter Slime
Ingredients:
- Model Magic clay (white or pre-colored)
- Lotion (any inexpensive brand will do)
- Food coloring (optional, if you’re using white clay)
Instructions:
- Remove the Model Magic clay from the bag.
- Squeeze a generous amount of lotion onto the clay (about a child’s handful—feel free to add more if needed).
- If you’re using white clay, add 2–3 drops of food coloring.
- Now knead, knead, knead! Keep mixing until the color and lotion are completely blended into the clay. The slime should be smooth, stretchy, and all one color.
Let the kids squish and shape it, create pretend food, or just enjoy the soothing texture. Best of all—no glue, no borax, no glitter… and no slime stuck in your carpet!
So head outside and let the slime fun begin. You might even enjoy it a little yourself.
